Microsoft Viva Goals

Product context: Microsoft acquired a business goals tracking software in 2021 to integrate into Viva Studios, their suite of work tools. The acquired software was designed for small-to-medium businesses, but as Viva Studios' client base was predominantly enterprise, Microsoft needed to figure out how to adapt it to better serve enterprise goal tracking needs.

Role context: The business was looking to launch some key scenarios and the focus was to leverage from Viva and Microsoft 365 features. I came in as a Senior Consultant to design, complete some critical features and execute the project with minimal oversight.

Constraints:

Scope: I picked up the project in the mid stage, lead the design for different pods, came up to speed with the Microsoft design library and completed the design tasks
Timeline: Three months with a tight deadline; I was made aware of the deadline at the start of the project
Staffing: I worked with cross functional teams that were in different geo locations with brief check-ins as needed with my design team and Manager.

My Contributions:

lead the design work for different pods
learned and contributed to the Microsoft Fluent design system ensuring consistency across the product and leveraging established patterns for scale. Worked closely with other designers and UI leads to ensure that components were reusable and accessible.
partnered with multiple technical PM’s to prioritize the design items and to understand the features and user scenarios, collaborated with cross-organization stakeholders (Viva Engage, SharePoint, Fluent) regularly located in different geo locations
gained insight into user feedback obtained through research and investigated on the design problems to make sure we are leveraging the M365 existing patterns and features
created design concepts—UX flows, wireframes, and visual designs—by simplifying complex workflows and focusing on usability and accessibility, aimed to make goal setting and tracking less time-consuming and more intuitive, fostering adoption and improving user satisfaction

created and applied established design principles and interaction patterns

my work and commitment to leading and supporting the design work for some of the critical features in the face of tight deadlines and ever changing requirements greatly helped the design team to meet very tight deadlines.
